How to use the Routefinder
The Risk Assessment Routefinder is a toolkit designed to help small and medium-sized businesses manage their business risks.
You can use it in three ways:
- to help you find out where you are at the moment
- to guide you through a step-by-step approach to managing risks
- to search directly for help in dealing with a specific problem.
Whichever route you take, we suggest that you get a small group of people together from all areas of your business, including those with expertise in the work areas you’re looking at. As a group, you can complete the questionnaires we’ve provided so that you can examine the hazards you face, and come up with solutions to manage the risks. Either print off the questionnaires, or complete them on-screen and save them to your computer (using the ‘save as’ option).
You can then use the Your notes forms to list information that’s come out of your discussions, and Your risk map sheets to jot down the hazards and control measures that you identify.
If you want to know more about specific risk topics, have a look at the Resources section, or look at the signposts, that we’ve included throughout the Routefinder.
